a rough design

This is a rough layout, obviously based on the da Vinci, but using the Mission hall as the reference for the interior rather than Leonardo's proto-brutalist cellar. This is only a guide to the way the figures will be laid out, it'll depend on who the characters are played by

another dining room scene. I'm wondering how to use some elements from the hall in composing the setting

design scribble

starting to get an idea of the hall

This is a vague idea of the dimensions. It'll probably sit a little bit lower on the wall, with the base 800-900 mm above the stage floor. Painting to be 4.5 x 2 m ?

I've got a few other drawings in a larger pad which I'll need to photograph to put in here, it's not really possible to scan them(with my A4 scanner - if anyone has a larger one they'd care to donate...)

This is a portrait of Scott, who has been around the Mission and a volunteer for the last 5 years

Last Supper Mural at Newtown Mission

Newtown Mission provides a drop-in centre where people can meet and eat.

With the volunteers, the people who drop in, and pastor Brian Unterrheiner I am creating a mural of the Last Supper on the wall of the food hall, a former school hall in the style of an old-school school of arts. The mural is to be on the wall at the back of the stage.

The characters in the 'drama' are to be played by volunteers and regulars. I'm going to use the version by Leonardo da Vinci as a guide and freely adapt from it. I won't attempt to copy every gesture of the participants, but  use the gestures of the people who model the characters and their style of dress to create the scene, but adhere to the basic principles of his design.

In this blog I'll publish the drawings I make as I get to know the people, and design sketches , and some images of the work in construction
