Wombat and Waratah, and Lawyervine

Underpainted waratah and a wombat emerging from his burrow I painted in to the billabong today for Pastor Brian - the resolute Wombat -  as well as some lawyervine to tangle things up a bit (Smilax Australis - thanks to Brad Fromant and Tom for the ID). My favourite wait-a-while from the mid north coast

Meanwhile Grace has been outlining flowers and plants

A brolga (for Elizabeth). It needs a friend

Yabby

You can see more details as well as the whole mural in progress in the previous few posts - here , here and here

I'll collect them in a page later on

Australiana

Around the billabong after tuesday 24th of october

deaf adder and a kangaroo rat

Wedge tail eagle.

A deaf adder I drew before I starting one in, their hesds are really well camouflaged it's hard to make out from an image on a laptop screen

Smilax the lawyervine - Smilax Australis. Thanks to Bradley Fromant, and Tom for their quick and spot on species identification from my vague description. I'll paint some near the tree with the lawyervine

There are still a lot of creatures to get in there, someome reminded us today that there's no fish in the water, so I might put in a cod and some eels. There's also no invertebrates, so a yabby or 2 as well

Grace at work on the Australiana scene around the billabong we have been painting along with Xantharea at Newtown Mission.

Over the past week we've added a lot of plants and animals and the scene hasbegun to really shape. Below are a few details. There are more photos of work in progress here and here

A new mural - Animals around the Billabong

The painting at the end of Friday 13 October. We've started to add some birds and animals- echidna, platypus, kangaroo, koala and kookaburra, but there's a lot more to come yet, I want to load the image up like an Australiana teatowel with goannas and owls, brolga, emu, possum, lorikeets to name a few

Grace  with the painting today

After a couple of days we(Grace, Xantharea and me) have a background starting to appear and some paint on most of the surface - and a single platypus. We're taking requests for Australian animals to include

Xanth at work yesterday(tues 10 oct)

Some of the ground painted in. I'm going in today with Grace and Xanth to work up the background some more and start placing the animals etc.

Grace and Xantharea and I made a start today on a mural at the opposite end of the hall from the Last Supper, of some trees by a creek or billabong with some native animals based on a drawing Pastor Brian drew up for us. It's a community project so suggest a creature to include, or do a drawing or maybe paint some of it

Steven Jarman

My mate Steve serves tea and coffee at the  Mission. He's always quick with a comment, and loves to get his photo taken as part of a painted scene. He's one of the apostles in the Last Supper.

Steve was born in Ethiopia and still knows some of the languages from there

Sky

Sky! I've got a sky on all four walls now as the Mission closes for a 2 week winter recess. Afterwards I'll move on to add more detail and some people who didn't make it into the Last Supper murals in the hall

A lot of people have asked me when I'll paint the roof with more sky, and tree branches, so I'll do that too
